Dr. Patricia I. Wright Virginia State Superintendent of Public Instruction
“Crisis Management Takes More Than Plastic, Duct Tape, and Masks!” Ms. Arlene Cundiff, Retired Virginia Coordinator for the federally funded Safe and Drug-Free Schools Program Crisis management planning is important to understand all of the real assets and positive information that is already available Sometimes, we're not aware of what's around us. We all need to stop and take a good, long, and hard look at what's already in place. Not everything fits everybody. Crisis management planning should be not a "cookie-cutter" approach. Crisis management plans must be unique and designed to fit the individual needs of the school being served.
“Effectively Dealing With Difficult People” Ms. Linda Walker Via, Principal, Lawson-Marriott Elementary, King & Queen County Public Schools This session will help participants learn how to effectively deal with situations in a proactive manner instead of reacting in a negative way. Attendees will learn ways to defuse explosive situations with appropriate communication and body language. Those in attendance will leave with a clearer understanding of the statement, "What you do speaks so loudly I can’t hear what you are saying."
